The Importance of the Unknowns

Postby Derek » Fri Jul 05, 2024 6:32 pm

The GOAT IMO Herschel Walker makes a good point about what makes a team great. Apologies if FB won't show it to you without logging in.

I met him at a rally a few years ago when he was running, and only shook his hand for a second.

Spence, you talked to him for a few minutes if I remember correctly. I'll always be jealous of that. 8)

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Yes, I met him in Indianapolis at a show where he was promoting his chicken company. He seems like a good guy. We talked football for about 20 minutes. It was a highlight for sure.

”We’re already in a time where the on-field aspect of College Football is almost a distraction. It’s an era filled with handwringing about player empowerment, NCAA deregulation, the transfer portal and realignment all while the sport generally moves toward a professional model.” ~ Dennis Dodd

Thanks for that! I remember some of those runs, some, well, it was a LONG time ago. Loved hearing Keith Jackson's voice too.

Do you remember Herschel in the Olympics ?

On a bob sled...his speed and power were sought for the running start.

I didn't remember that at all if I ever knew it. It wouldn't surprise me they would try to get a next level guy like him to do it.

Now that I think about it, I think I remember something about that!

Hope you're doing well!

Doing well, thanks...

After being close to death in June 2023, I am now in remission...Rads and chemo kicked my butt...lost 61 pounds.

Been hitting the weights and am now at 205...feeling good, looking good...old but folks say I am looking good.

Still on soft foods...looking forward to another season...

44 years ago, next month, my wife and I had our first date...to an FSU game...looking forward to another season.

And you start off the season for us, vs Georgia Tech, in Dublin.

I think it's good for these players to get out of the country, and see other cultures. Ought make for an interesting venue.

Good to see you're doing well.

FSU was pretty great last year. I always thought Norvell could be the right guy for that place, once he was name the coach.

We'll see if the portal was as good to you this year, as last. The High School recruiting sure has picked in Tallahassee, too.

If I remember right, that was the Peach Bowl wasn't it??? Or was it someone else that said that?

Derek..

The Peach Bowl after the 1983 season is a part of our family mythology....

We sat in that freezing stadium ( 18 degrees ) and when we beat UNC, we went out with friends to celebrate. A bottle of champagne per couple...Nine months later, our Peach Bowl Boy was born.
