Re: Tip of the Iceberg

......you mean like from Arizona to Washington(PAC 12) and Texas to West Virginia(BIG XII) and Nebraska to Maryland(BIG10), South Carolina to Texas(SEC), and Florida to Massachusetts(ACC)??? You really think the TV guys would put-up with that or even allow it to happen??? Of course not, but ...

Re: Tip of the Iceberg

You can't have a conference spanning across half the country and not get the big media deals to counter the growing expenses. Both UCONN and Houston are inexplicably in the same AAC. Lets not forget that baseball and soccer are making these same journeys playing in front of about 50 people. Get bac...

Tip of the Iceberg

I think this is not atypical. Accounting nowadays is not a science so you see all kinds of creative numbers. In UConn's case, this seems to be real. Of note is the sports that lost money. Save a few programs, college sports have become the second largest Ponzi scheme. (The first and by far and away ...

Re: Post Your "Make You Think" Questions

I think Mr. Billybud is correct. A dynasty is not just a good run. Boise State has had some good runs. Their level of competition and play is not that of the Big Leagues. Football is a lot like Boxing, a lot of divisions and to say a welterweight is better than a heavyweight makes no sense. Some Fly...

Re: FSU & Bluegrass

I was already trying to sneek peeks at Playboys on the news rack.... You youngsters missed YA Tittle, Johnny Unitas, Norm Van Brocklin...and the best of Fran Tarkenton and George Blanda. Yes...and National Geographic and the Sears Roebuck Catalog (For those of you that are clueless, we didn't have ...

Re: Transfers-Anyone Know How Many Players.....

When this all started the transfer rule would have been lunacy. As time progressed and the schools and NCAA-KGB took over, the students became like the guy in the brick fight that had not bricks. Maybe they will have some for a couple of years until the anti-christ figures it out.

Re: FSU & Bluegrass

Speaking of grass...I remember in 1960 when the Dallas Cowboys first started they played their exhibition game in Portland against the LA Rams. Norm Van Brocklin was the QB for the Rams and a guy, Eddie Lebaron was the QB for the Cowboys. LeBaron was maybe 5'6" and Van Brocklin was huge. It was...

Re: FSU & Bluegrass

That is great trivia. Howard Cossell was a great entertaining announcer. Everything sounded like it was a news report of the greatest concern. Back in those days you believed the announcers, there was no fact-checking. I long for the olden days, the golden needs to drop the 'g'.

Re: Post Your "Make You Think" Questions

Oregon and Oregon State have always been hardcore rivals. Even a time when Oregon State was generally a better football club. Lately, not so. But in other sports OSU absolutely holds their own. Washington and Washington State are cut-throat rivals... You know this in both states because if one team ...

Re: Post Your "Make You Think" Questions

Did Alabama’s weak regular season schedule contribute to their blowout loss in the National Title Game??? I don't think so. I think Alabama is so used to scripting the game that it has always just gone that way. When Clemson disrupted the script nobody knew what to do. Defense was confused and the ...

Mel Stottlemyre RIP

I remember him. Was a great pitcher in very difficult Yankee times. I remember him when he spent a couple of stints in Seattle. One of the good memories.

Re: Post Your "Make You Think" Questions

Understanding dynasties make last for a long time, but not forever, there are football dynasties that have never won a national title. (Until a few years ago there was not National Title, just people giving their opinion whether by polling or just water-cooler conversation. Here are a few "dyna...

Re: University of Oregon Being Sued

I'm sorry, but maybe because I'm tired of "lawsuits", I don't have a lot of sympathy for cases like this. You could have stopped the workout at any time....no one was forced to be on the team. Maybe the guy was cruel, but you can't say you were "forced" to do it. And to me that'...
